Longstanding veterinary program reaccredited by AAHA
The program has maintained its AAHA accreditation since 2007, reinforcing its commitment to high-quality, hands-on veterinary education.

Macomb Community College’s veterinary technician program has received reaccreditation from the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA), maintaining its accreditation status since 2007.
AAHA accreditation is a voluntary recognition for veterinary practices that meet evidence-based Standards of Accreditation focused on high-quality care for companion animals, including patient safety and clinical procedures. Only about 15 per cent of veterinary hospitals in the U.S. and Canada are AAHA-accredited.
Macomb’s Veterinary Technician program is accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association and trains students to assist veterinarians in various aspects of care, including medical assistance, diagnostics, and anesthesia.
The program, directed by Marianne Tear, collaborates with Macomb County Animal Control, enabling students to gain hands-on experience while performing routine care and spay/neuter surgeries for community animals.
Established in the early 1980s, it is one of Michigan’s oldest and the only on-ground vet tech program in Metro Detroit, enrolling up to 48 students each fall and producing graduates who work in veterinary clinics statewide. The program incorporates AAHA standards to emphasize professional accountability and quality care.
