Winnipeg Humane Society seizes more than 130 small dogs

With the newest additions, more than 611 animals are under WHS’ care—with 239 in foster homes

The Winnipeg Humane Society (WHS) is overwhelmed with the number of animals in its care following a recent seizure of over 130 small dogs from a Winnipeg residence. The WHS is working closely with the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian-Animal Welfare (OPV-AW) to provide shelter and care for these dogs.

This situation follows a similar incident three months ago, when over 60 Maltese dogs were taken into WHS care after being rescued from a Winnipeg residence by Animal Services.

Currently, the WHS has implemented an intake freeze as, with the newest additions, more than 611 animals are under its’ care—with 239 in foster homes.

To address the crisis, the WHS is appealing to the community for donations to support the immediate needs of these animals. Contributions can be made through their website.
