Preventive care strategies in vet med focus of global summit
The Purina Institute Global Summit 2026 explored how veterinary medicine can act earlier and more intentionally to protect pet health before health conditions become established.

Veterinary professionals gathered for the Purina Institute Global Summit 2026, held May 27–28, to discuss evidence-based approaches to preventive veterinary care. Centered on the theme “Proactive, Not Reactive: Changing the Care Paradigm,” the event explored strategies for identifying health risks earlier and integrating prevention into routine practice.
Sessions emphasized using wellness and vaccination appointments to discuss preventive care, strengthening communication skills across the veterinary team, and tailoring recommendations to individual pet owners. Speakers also examined the role of nutrition, healthy body condition, connected pet technologies, and emerging biomarkers in supporting earlier detection and long-term health.

“The Purina Institute Global Summit continues to serve as the forum for translating science into practical strategies for veterinary professionals,” says Marianne Lomberg, BVSc (Hons), global head of the Purina Institute, in a statement. “The goal of this year’s summit was to empower veterinary professionals to design care plans for their practices that make prevention understandable, relevant, and achievable.”
Recordings of the summit sessions are now available on demand at the Purina Institute website.
