The Humane Society London & Middlesex (HSLM) in London, Ont., has opened its first accredited on-site veterinary clinic, the HSLM Animal Medical Centre.

Ontario dog diagnosed with canine distemper virus

January 16, 2025

Barrydowne Animal Hospital in Sudbury, Ont., has confirmed a canine distemper virus (CDV) case. The hospital issued a statement describing the virus as “a highly contagious and potentially deadly disease,” and cautioned that the infected dog might have exposed other dogs while shedding the virus. However, no additional cases have been confirmed at this time.

Parvovirus outbreak kills 14 dogs in Windsor, Ont.

Ontario’s Animal Welfare Services (AWS) is urging dog owners in Windsor to take immediate precautions following a viral outbreak of parvovirus that has already claimed the lives of 14 dogs. The outbreak began in downtown Windsor and has spread to surrounding areas, leaving veterinary professionals on high alert.

Thirty dead geese found in Ontario park, avian flu suspected

Approximately 30 deceased Canada geese were recently discovered in the vicinity of Lake Ontario Park and Elevator Bay in Kingston, Ont. City officials are currently investigating the issue, noting observations of additional signs of illness amongst the area’s wild bird population.

Squirrelpox on the rise in Ontario

Wildlife Haven Waterloo, an animal rehabilitation facility in Waterloo, Ont., has recently noted an increase in squirrelpox—a highly contagious disease known for causing skin lesions in squirrels. These new cases of the infection are the first the centre has seen in five years.
