Third animal death reported at Toronto Zoo

The Toronto Zoo officially said goodbye to Trilly the 11-year-old moose. A beloved resident, Trilly was euthanized following several months of decline. This loss comes on the heels of the recent deaths of two other zoo animals—a red panda cub and Matumaini (Matu), a 2-year-old Masai giraffe—for unrelated reasons.

Further Calgary Stampede injuries, third horse euthanized

Another horse competing in the Calgary Stampede was recently euthanized after sustaining an injury during a race—marking the third horse to be euthanized due to injuries at this year’s event. The Calgary Stampede, an annual event featuring on of the world’s largest rodeos, has already come under fire from non-profit organization Animal Justice Canada Legislative Fund, who have called for animal cruelty charges to be laid at Calgary Stampede events.

An amazing story out of Portland, Ore.: A veterinary intern discovered a tick in the neck of a recently paralyzed dog about to be put down. After removing the tick, Ollie, a Collie was OK, able to move again.
