The town of LaSalle, Ont., has launched a voucher program to support the spaying and neutering of feral cats. Under the new initiative, caregivers of feral cats who qualify as low-income residents can opt in to receive a $50 voucher. While the initial phase of the project began in Feb., 2024, the second phase has commenced this month.

As per CTV News Windsor, this initiative encourages the practice of Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR), where stray cats are captured, spayed or neutered, and then returned to their original locations. TNR is an effective and humane method for controlling feral cat populations, as a single cat can produce up to 12 kittens annually.

Vouchers will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
