Canadian pet product retailer Pet Valu announced the success of their 2023 Companions for Change program. Throughout the year, pet lovers who participated in the company’s fundraising initiatives helped amass $3.5 million in support of Canadian animal welfare causes.

Since its inception in 2010, Companions for Change has raised more than $28 million for animal organizations and placed over 46,000 pets in homes. In 2023 alone, the program helped more than 4,700 pets find their forever homes.

The Companions for Change sponsorship program also allocates funds for significant capital projects in the animal welfare sector. Approximately $1 million was raised in 2023, contributing to projects such as:

  • Opening the Companions for Change Pet Adoption and Wellness Centre at the North Bay and District Humane Society.
  • Supporting the construction of the Regina Humane Society’s Animal Community Centre.
  • Renewing support for the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals’ Mobile Animal Wellness Services Unit, providing low-cost spay and neuter surgeries across the province.
