Hill’s offers travel grant to DVM students

Canadian veterinary students are being given the chance to complete a rotation at OVC

OVC students taking part in the primary healthcare rotation.

Ontario Veterinary College (OVC) has partnered with Hill’s Pet Nutrition to offer fourth-year veterinary students the opportunity to apply for a $5000 travel grant through the Hill’s Scholar program.

Awarded to two students, the grant will allow them to travel to Hill’s Pet Nutrition Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC), located on OVC’s campus, and participate in a three-week primary health-care rotation alongside OVC students.

During this rotation, students will:

  • be given the opportunity to work up cases, interpret test results from a full suite of in-clinic diagnostics, generating differential lists and treatment plans;
  • assist in anesthetic and surgical procedures reflective of a general practice case load, including spays, neuters, and other surgeries;
  • assist in dental radiography and comprehensive oral health, assessment, and treatment plans (COHATs);
  • gain exposure to digital radiography, ultrasonography, and rehabilitation therapy in the full on-site rehabilitation suite;
  • become familiar with wellness plans and gain the confidence to perform a nutritional assessment and obtain nutritional compliance with clients; and
  • experience being the lead veterinarian on a team and learn the value of monitoring business metrics.

Applicants must be must be in good academic standing at a Canadian veterinary college (excluding OVC) or a Canadian citizen studying at an accredited veterinary college outside Canada.

Students must provide the following in their application:

  • a completed and signed application form;
  • a letter describing previous veterinary experience and professional/career interests; and
  • a letter from the associate dean-academic of your college, showing support for you to attend this rotation.
