Mars and Humane Canada launch national animal emergency response program

Mars, Incorporated, creator of popular pet brands like ROYAL CANIN® and WHISKAS®, has joined forces with Humane Canada to establish a national animal emergency response program.
This initiative aims to create a cohesive network for animal welfare organizations and first responders across Canada, enhancing preparedness for emergencies such as natural disasters.
With millions of households owning pets, the partnership highlights the importance of integrating animal welfare into emergency response plans.
As threats like wildfires escalate, the initiative seeks to ensure that pets receive the care they need during crises.
“This program will equip humane societies and SPCAs with the necessary tools and training to respond effectively,” said Kathy Duncan, director of national programs at Humane Canada.
Romain Dumas, general manager of Mars Pet Nutrition Canada, emphasized the program’s vital role in supporting pets and their owners during emergencies.
Together, Mars and Humane Canada aim to address key challenges in animal response and improve coordination at all levels of emergency management, ultimately ensuring a safer environment for animals and their families in times of need.
