Former TV vet announces clinic closure
A severe shortage of veterinary professionals has been cited as a challenge to the clinic
North of 55 Veterinary Services, the sole veterinary clinic in Thompson, Man., will be closing its doors permanently at the end of this year. The clinic’s veterinarian, Keri Hudson Reykdal, DVM—known for Dr. Keri: Prairie Vet, a three-season Animal Planet Canada documentary series—announced the clinic would cease operations as of Dec. 31, 2024.
As per CTV News, Reykdal cited several challenges contributing to the decision, including a shortage of veterinary professionals, difficulties in maintaining work-life balance in a small community, and the unique challenges of living in the north.
“Coming to this community during Covid and building a business was incredibly challenging,” she said. “But during my time here, I have built many relationships with clients, some who I now consider friends.”
Reykdal emphasized that she would still be available to provide veterinary care on a limited basis.
