Canadian milk tests negative for avian influenza

In response to growing concerns about the potential spread of thee highly pathogenic H5N1 virus following its detection in U.S. dairy cattle, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) have undertaken testing measures to ensure the safety of commercially sold milk. CFIA have confirmed, as of May 14, samples of retail milk across Canada show “no evidence” of the virus.

Deceased beluga whale found on P.E.I beach

The Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC), Marine Animal Response Society (MARS), Fisheries and Oceans Canada, and Parks Canada have partnered to conduct an examination on the remains of a beluga whale discovered on P.E.I’s Tracadie Beach. The investigation seeks to ascertain cause of death and will include a necropsy and genetic testing.

Good Samaritan rescues dachschund

A man in Kelowna, B.C. recently discovered an emaciated dachshund left abandoned down an embankment. The man first spotted a pet carrier, which he initially assumed to be empty. Upon further investigation, he saw a severely malnourished dachshund inside the carrier. The dog was covered in feces and urine, his collar entangled in the carrier’s door in a manner that severely restricted his movement.
