Scribenote, an AI-powered medical scribe designed to alleviate documentation burden on veterinarians, has successfully raised $8.2 million in seed funding. Co-founded by University of Waterloo alumni Ryan Gallagher and Alina Pavel, along with Katie Gallagher, DVM, and veterinary student Emily Merry, Scribenote captures audio from conversations between veterinarians and clients—using AI to generate accurate medical records in just minutes.

OVC introduces new professorships to enhance research on human-animal bond

The Ontario Veterinary College (OVC) at the University of Guelph is launching two new professorships to enhance research on the lifelong bonds between humans and companion animals. Each of the two, five-year term professorships will focus on exploring the impact of human-animal relationships on the health and well-being of animals, people, and communities.

Pregnant pit bull mix among three dogs rescued from infested home

BC SPCA animal protection officers seized three adult pit bull mixes—a male and two females, one of whom is heavily pregnant—from a property in Kelowna, B.C. The dogs were found living in a rat-infested home, where the floors were covered in feces and urine. They were soon transported to the BC SPCA’s Penticton Veterinary Hospital for care and evaluation.

Former TV vet announces clinic closure

North of 55 Veterinary Services, the sole veterinary clinic in Thompson, Man., will be closing its doors permanently at the end of this year. The clinic’s veterinarian, Keri Hudson Reykdal, DVM—known for Dr. Keri: Prairie Vet, a three-season Animal Planet Canada documentary series—announced the clinic would cease operations as of Dec. 31, 2024.
