New veterinary centre of excellence opens in Montreal

The Centre hospitalier universitaire veterinaire (CHUV) of the Universite de Montreal’s faculty of veterinary medicine recently opened its new Centre of Excellence in Interventional Medicine (CEMI). Located in CHUV’s small animal hospital, the CEMI features a comprehensive suite equipped with a fluoroscopy table with a C-Arm for precise imaging, a sophisticated monitoring system, and an integrated anesthesia system.

Hockey player Mitch Marner assists K9 unit

In 2019, Toronto Maple Leafs right winger and alternate captain Mitch Marner donated a bite suit to Durham, Ont.’s police K9 unit. The suit, bearing an original autograph from Marner, was destroyed in a fire in summer 2022. After the loss, the Marner Assist Foundation offered to replace the suit.

Unique furless raccoon finds shelter in N.S.

When a couple in Arichat, N.S., discovered a shivering, pink mammal in their backyard, they brought the curious creature to a veterinary clinic in Cape Breton. The mystery animal was soon identified as a female raccoon. Weighing only 3 kg (6.6 lb) and presenting as completely furless, she was transferred to a wildlife rehabilitation centre in Seaforth.

Toronto’s first bald eagle nest in 50 years facing danger

The city of Toronto has been abuzz with news of a pair of bald eagles, ever since the birds were first seen engaging in mating behaviour high above the city skyline. Soon after, residents reported what they believed to be the eagles’ nest—a tangle of sticks about as large as a queen-size mattress, lying among leafless tree branches—to the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority.
