Roo, a workforce platform that connects veterinary hospitals with professionals, was launched recently in Canada. The platform offers flexible locum work and free continuing education for veterinarians and registered veterinary technicians (RVTs).

The platform will allow veterinary hospitals across the Greater Toronto Area to post and fill open shifts. Veterinarians and RVTs can search for locum shifts that fit their schedules and preferred locations.

The launch comes as Canada’s veterinary sector faces staffing pressure. The Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) projects about 5,000 veterinary job openings in Canada between now and 2031, compared with just over 4,000 job seekers.

That gap can make it harder for clinics to maintain appointment capacity, cover vacations and parental leaves, and give teams time away from work. Staffing shortages can also contribute to burnout.

Roo says its real-time, self-serve platform helps hospitals find qualified coverage more quickly. It also gives veterinary professionals more control over their schedules and work-life balance.
