Calgarians rally to help pets hit by California wildfires
Parachutes for Pets, a Calgary-based animal organization, has been overwhelmed by local donations of pet supplies, including food and litter, and even the use of a private jet
A Calgary-based animal organization, Parachutes for Pets, is offering critical support to pets displaced by the recent wildfires in Los Angeles. The group is personally transporting truckloads of donated supplies for rescue groups assisting animals impacted by the flames.
The organization had appealed to Calgarians for donations of pet food, litter, and other essentials, and the response was overwhelming. In addition to the generous local support, a private jet was donated to expedite the delivery of the supplies.
According to CTV News, executive director Melissa David and vice-president of operations Lauren Fettig arrived in California with 800 pounds of supplies, the maximum they could fit on the plane. They also have additional trucks and shipments heading to Los Angeles to ensure that as many animals as possible receive the help they need.
To further support the relief efforts, Parachutes for Pets is urging people to contribute through online donations, which will help fund veterinary care for pets injured by the wildfires.
