The BC SPCA’s pet food bank program made a significant impact in 2025, providing 622,850 meals to 44,320 cats and dogs

across British Columbia. That’s an average of 923 pets supported each week, thanks to the efforts of community services teams and 164 partner organizations.

Operating through every BC SPCA animal centre, the program spans four regions:

  • Lower Mainland & Fraser Valley: 14,907 pets helped
  • Thompson, Okanagan & Kootenay: 13,324 pets helped
  • Vancouver Island, Gulf Islands & Sunshine Coast: 11,770 pets helped
  • Cariboo & North: 4,319 pets helped

Rising living costs remain a leading reason for pet surrenders. By providing food and essential supplies, the BC SPCA aims to ease financial strain and keep pets with the families who love them. Despite an annual budget allocation, demand continues to exceed supply.

To meet this growing need, the Eldon & Anne Foote Fund at Edmonton Community Foundation is triple-matching donations up to $50,000 to help stock pet food banks. Every contribution counts toward keeping pets and families together.
