PetSmart Charities of Canada (PSCC) has committed $18 million to improve access to veterinary services across Canada, focusing on affordable care and underserved communities.

Since 2023, nearly $10 million has been distributed to support this initiative. A significant example is the Nova Scotia SPCA, which received $200,000 to expand access to care.

The PetSmart Charities of Canada-Gallup State of Pet Care Study found that 50 per cent of pet parents skipped veterinary care due to financial concerns. To address this, half of the new funding will be allocated to hire more staff at Tartan Tails Veterinary Hospital in Stellarton, increasing appointment availability.

The other half of the funding will support the Nova Scotia SPCA College of Animal Welfare in Dartmouth, educating students in veterinary technician and assistant programs about accessible animal care.
