$10-million donation transforms animal welfare in Oakville
HSOMH plans new facility to expand support for pets and families

The Humane Society of Oakville, Milton, and Halton (HSOMH) has announced a transformative $10-million donation from philanthropist Klaus Bytzek, marking the largest gift in the organization’s history.
This significant contribution aims to enhance care and support for pets and their owners across the community for generations to come.
Bytzek, a longtime supporter of HSOMH, hopes this act of kindness will inspire others to contribute to animal welfare.
This donation comes at a crucial time for HSOMH, which has recently sold its property to the Town of Oakville and is planning a new, modern animal centre.
The upcoming facility is designed to meet the growing needs of the region, allowing HSOMH to care for more animals, support additional families, and enhance its programs and services in a dedicated space.
Jeff Vallentin, the executive director, highlighted the significance of Bytzek’s gift, noting that it greatly advances the vision for a new shelter and strengthens HSOMH’s mission.
Vallentin said that while the donation benefits the organization’s future, it also provides immediate support to the animals currently in their care. The HSOMH has been a community cornerstone since 1936, committed to enhancing the human-animal bond through education, outreach, and shelter services.
