The charitable arm of the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) is inviting third-year veterinary students studying in the United States, Canada, the Caribbean, and Europe, to apply apply for available scholarships, totalling US$125,000.

Specifically, 10 exceptional veterinary students pursuing future careers in equine practice will receive US$10,000, via the Zoetis Foundation Scholarships program, and five students will be awarded US$5,000 Merck Animal Health Scholarships. Both opportunities are open to veterinary students paced to graduate in 2025.

“We are committed to providing opportunities for students through a more inclusive veterinary community,” says Jeannette Ferran Astorga, president of the Zoetis Foundation and executive vice-president of corporate affairs and communications, and chief sustainability officer at Zoetis. “It’s important to us that we support the veterinary profession as it continues to grow in order to meet the need for increased animal care and wellness.”

Applicants will be considered based on their academic excellence, leadership in their school and AAEP student chapter, and long-term goals in equine practice. They must also have the support of AAEP members and their clinical instructors.

“Merck Animal Health is pleased to provide scholarships to these deserving students as they pursue an education and career in equine veterinary medicine,” says Bryant W. Craig, DVM, associate director of equine professional services at Merck. “As the costs of higher education continue to rise, helping to offset some of that expense is one of the ways we continue to give back to our industry and its future leaders.”

The awards will be presented at the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) 69th annual convention, which will be hosted Nov. 28 to Dec. 3 in San Diego, Calif.

The deadline to apply for both scholarships is April 15. For more, click here.
