TD launches new initiative to support incoming veterinary students

TD’s new plan of an enhanced student line of credit aims to address the issue from the ground up by extending support to incoming students.

Two black bears killed following events at B.C. music festival

B.C. Conservation Officer Service (BCCOS) reports two black bears were euthanized after repeated disturbances at the Shambhala Music Festival in Salmo, B.C. Having observed that the bears demonstrated highly food-conditioned behaviour and displayed little fear of humans, BCCOS deemed the bears too dangerous for further relocation or rehabilitation.

Lac Seul First Nation and OSPCA collaborate on spay/neuter clinic

Lac Seul First Nation, in partnership with the Ontario SPCA (OSPCA), successfully spayed or neutered over 60 animals—37 cats and 25 dogs—during a community animal wellness Frenchman’s Head, Ont. The clinic’s efforts will help prevent an estimated 3,000 unplanned puppies and kittens. In addition to the spay/neuter procedures, the event offered 30 animal wellness appointments, during which 159 vaccines were administered.

Yet another whale entanglement, non-profit calls to mandate ropeless gear

Non-profit organization Oceana Canada is urging Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) to mandate the use of ropeless gear in high-risk areas for North Atlantic right whale entanglements by 2025. This call to action follows the recent sighting of Dropcloth, an adult male right whale, off the East Coast of Miscou Island, New Brunswick. This is the second instance of Dropcloth being found entangled in Canada, the first occurrence having been in July 2019.

Pet Valu raises over $2.2 million in charitable donations

Canadian pet food and supplies retailer Pet Valu’s recent Pet Appreciation Month achieved a record-breaking total of over $2.2 million in monetary and product donations. The sum benefits more than 400 animal-related causes across Canada and represents the highest amount raised since the event's inception in 2011.
