IDEXX Laboratories has launched an in-clinic cardiac test for cats and dogs, giving veterinarians rapid access to quantitative cardiac data during a patient visit.

The Catalyst proBNP Test measures NT-proBNP, a biomarker used to assess heart disease. It runs on IDEXX’s Catalyst platform and delivers laboratory-level accuracy and real-time cardiac assessment. IDEXX says the test can support screening, diagnosis, and disease monitoring.

The test can help veterinarians identify subclinical heart disease in cats, support preoperative evaluations, and assess the likelihood of clinically relevant cardiac changes in healthy small- and medium-breed dogs with heart murmurs. It can also help distinguish cardiac from noncardiac causes of respiratory distress.

IDEXX says the test can help veterinarians identify patients who may need closer monitoring, treatment, or referral to a specialist. The company also says it can reduce reliance on referrals where access to echocardiography or cardiology specialists is limited.

The Catalyst platform has nearly 80,000 analysers installed globally. Veterinarians can run the new test on its own or alongside other chemistry tests. Results will appear in VetConnect PLUS with the patient’s diagnostic history and interpretation guidance.

The company will make it available in North America starting in October 2026, with international markets to follow.
